U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Marvin Isgur welcomes students to the historic Federal Courthouse

On March 1, 2025, the top competitors from HISD Debate and HCDE's CASE Debates programs met to battle for the 2024-2025 HUDL City Championships.


Thanks to the generous support of HUDL donors and the Hatfield family, our champions receive Benjamin Donald Hatfield Scholarships to put to their college educations and many will have the opportunity to represent Houston in post-season competition.


This year's champions, in each of HUDL's five debate formats:


Policy Debate

City Champion: Alejandra Cabello and Alara Eyuboglu, Heights

Runner-up: Gabriella Brown and Ai Tran, Alief Kerr

 

Public Forum Debate

City Champion:  Neel Chandalia and Alex Song, DeBakey

Runner-up: Arnav Nemade and Long Nguyen, Carnegie Vanguard

 

Lincoln Douglas Debate

 City Champion: Vincent Wollner, DeBakey

Runner-up: Sarah Cruser, Heights


Congressional

City Champion: Samantha Tran, Bellaire

Runner-up: Alia Hassan, Bellaire

 

World Schools Debate

City Champion: Oyindamola Mulikat Nicole Akintola, Deborah Akpeki, Marvellous Nans and Hidayah Noor Jahan Habeeb, Alief Early College

Runner-up: Leah Ghebrelul, Sarah Abisaab, Erica Carranza and Abigail Nguyen, Alief Kerr
